What Is The Essex Olympian Football League ?
The Essex Olympian Football League, previously known as the Essex Intermediate Football League, was founded in 1966 with the intention of providing a County Wide League for clubs who wanted to play in a higher standard than local Junior football.
It was also the intention of the Leagues founders that the league be instrumental in providing a stepping stone for clubs wishing to progress into Senior football. In this aspiration the league has been successful and many of its former clubs have gone on to greater things. The best known of these clubs being Billericay Town who, after being founder members of the League, progressed into Senior football and are past winners of the F.A. Vase.
The E.O.F.L. is the only league in Essex with 100% of its clubs meeting the requirements of the County Intermediate Status and clubs without this status are not eligible for membership. Its membership of 42 clubs cover all corners of the County and the League is always on the look out for new clubs of a suitable standard to join it, particularly from the North East of the County which is not well represented at present.
The league is made up of three Senior and three Reserve Divisions. The strength of the Senior Divisions has been proved over recent years by the number of member clubs who have reached the latter rounds of the County Intermediate Cups.
The League is part of the Football Association National League System with its Secretary serving on the Football Association step 7 Workgroup.
