St. Jakob Park is the first multifunctional stadium in Switzerland. It was opened on
15 March 2001 when FC Basle played its first match in the brand new stadium in front of 33,433 spectators. The stadium has an ultra-modern infrastructure.

St. Jakob Park also has a new 20,000 square metre shopping centre which was opened on 01 November 2001. An old peoples home with 107 appartments is being opened in the annex to the stadium.
