Intermediate Cup Success

Chadwell Heath brought further glory to the League by being our first winners of the Essex Intermediate Cup when they beat West End United by 4 - 2. This was the second time that Chadwell Heath had won this trophy having been victorious in the 1968/69 season, which was the season before they joined the league.

Chadwell Heath achieved a clean sweep of Senior domestic honours when they retained the Senior Division title, with Benfleet finishing as runners-up for the second season running. Chadwell Heath also beat Essex Police in extra time in the Senior Division Cup final and won the Challenge Cup by beating Runwell Hospital.

With no new clubs joining the league at the start of the season, the only change was in the name of Collier Row, who became Collier Row Motor Gear. Whilst the Senior Division remained with seventeen clubs, Sawbridgeworth disbanded their Reserve team reducing the Reserve Division to only fifteen clubs.

Benfleet finished the season as runners-up in three different league competitions. As well as finishing just one point behind Chadwell Heath in the Senior Division, they were runners up to Runwell Hospital in the Reserve Division and lost out to Old Chelmsfordians in the Reserve Division Cup.

The seasons Sportsmanship Award went to Herongate Athletic.

For the first season since the league was formed, no representative matches were played.

Once again the League moved its headquarters, this time to the Marconi Athletic and Social Club in Beehive Lane Chelmsford.

Both Marconi Athletic in the Senior Division and Dunmow in the Reserve Division, could only manage to win two matches in the whole league season. The strange thing was that their two victories were against the same clubs, Bishops Stortford Swifts and Burnham Ramblers.
