Harold Wood Athletic Triumph

The season started back in august with Kelvedon Hatch winning the senior and Harold Wood Athletic the Reserve Challenge cups.

The opening of their new one million pound pavilion at the beginning of 2009 seemed to spur their teams on and culminated with the club winning both the senior and reserve titles a double that was last achieved in 1997.

Frenford Senior finished runners up in the top division for the third time in five seasons.

In senior division one Westhamians took top place by just two points but the question of who was to go up with them was not decided until the last saturday of the season following a most extraordinary match at Rayleigh Town.

The home side, who earlier in the season had won 9 - 1 at Leytonstone United, went into the return match knowing that they had to win by eleven clear goals to overtake Hutton. This they did winning the match 14 - 0 and taking second place on goal difference.

In senior division two Sungate finished the season with 11 wins in their last 15 matches to take the title. The only loss in this run was in the last match of the season at Southminster St. Leonards who finished runners after their first season.

Newly promoted M & B Club finished runners up for the reserve title which was won for the third season in a row by Harold Wood Athletic.

Kelvedon Hatch won reserve division two by eight points from Faces F.C. and in reserve division three Westhamians made it a double promotion season for their club with Buckhurst Hill gained promotion at the first attempt.

M & B club capped an impressive season with teams in both our cup finals and whilst they lost in extra time to Manford Way in the senior cup they had success in the reserve final when they beat Rayleigh Town.

On the county front once again we had teams in both of the important finals. Whilst Maldon St. Marys lost by a solitary goal in the Essex Premier Cup, Bishops Stortford Swifts once again won the Herts Intermediate Cup

It isn't every season that clubs score 100 goals in the league. This season in senior division one Hutton scored 114 goals but were pipped for promotion on goal difference by Rayleigh Town who themselves managed 112 goals.
