Double Success For White Ensign

In only their second season in the League White Ensign retained the Senior Division Cup and won the Division One Championship by five points. they also retained the Southend Charity Cup defeating fellow league club Benfleet in the final

This was a season for having two teams in important finals with the League supplying both finalist in the Capital Counties Feeder Leagues (Cherry Red Books) Trophy and the Essex Premier Cup.

In the Capital Counties Feeder Leagues Trophy both Manford Way and Frenford Senior defeated opposition from higher leagues on their way to the final with Frenford Senior taking the cup with a 2 - 1 win.

Frenford Senior also won the Essex Premier Cup defeating White Notley by the only goal in the final.

This was a strange season for White Notley. In the league they only won three matches and were relegated, but they won over 12 cup matches and appeared in two cup finals taking the Tolleshunt D'Arcy Cup with a 3 - 2 win after being two goals down to Stanway Rovers.

Debden Sports gained promotion to the top Senior and Reserve divisions in their second season and overcame Takeley in the Reserve Cup final in extra time after being 1 - 0 down for over 85 minutes.

Galleywood, after fourteen seasons of trying, finally won promotion from Senior Division Three finishing on the same number of points as the division winners Faces F.C.

Harold Wood Athletic had waited even longer to put a winners trophy on the shelf when they won the Reserve Division title after 27 years of trying.

The newly named Ryan F.C. won Reserve Division Two on goal difference by a margin of two goals from Debden Sports.

At their third attempt Leigh Ramblers made it out of Reserve Three with Linford Wanderers finishing runners-up on goal difference from Galleywood.

Bishops Stortford Swifts won the Denny King Memorial Cup defeating Frenford Senior in the last match of the season on May bank Holiday Saturday.

George Georghiou, the hard working secretary of Frenford Senior, won the Clubman of the Year award with Tony Miller of Ryans F.C. named Club Linesman of the Season. the referee of the season was Martin Pickett

The top goalscorer was Warren Bennett of Debden Sports.

On the Charity Cup front apart from White Notley's win in Group A of the Southend Charity Cup, Herongate Athletic won Group C. Ramsden won Division One of the Burnham Charity Cup with Springfield overcoming Kelvedon Hatch in the Bill Spurgeon Charity Cup final.

Despite being the first team to finish with a goals against figure of under 10 in the league, Manford Way suffered in the Senior Cup Final when their nemesis White Ensign put seven goals past them in winning the trophy.
